The family of Za’Riyah Sheffield is mourning the devastating loss of the 16-year-old, who was tragically shot and killed on Monday by another 16-year-old boy at the Bridge at Harris Ridge Apartments in northeast Austin. The incident, sparked by the suspect accusing Za’Riyah of simply looking at him, has left her loved ones grappling with an unbearable grief.

Za’Riyah’s father, Adrian Sheffield, expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “Bro, you took my life. That was my friend, my best friend, my angel.” Her mother, Wanakee White, shared similar sentiments, describing her daughter as “the best thing in the world,” struggling to comprehend how her life could be taken so suddenly and senselessly.

A student at Connally High School, Za’Riyah had dreams of pursuing a career in business, but her future was cut short. Her aunt, Neisha Sheffield, spoke through the pain of losing someone so cherished, saying, “My baby not going to text me anymore. My life is going to be so different. He didn’t just cheat my baby out of her life. He cheated her entire family, out of the best thing all of us have ever had.”

Another aunt, Unique Bowser, highlighted Za’Riyah’s kindness and warmth, recalling how “to know her is to love her. And to know love. Because that’s all she was gonna give. That’s all she gave to anybody.”

Terrie Fisher, another family member, spoke of the lost potential in Za’Riyah’s life. “The choices that are no longer there for her to have and the opportunity in life, they’re gone and they’re gone forever,” Fisher said.

Za’Riyah’s family, heartbroken and left clinging to memories of her, now faces the immense void her death has left in their lives, as they remember her for the love and joy she brought to everyone she knew.

In conclusion, we offer our love and compassion to the family in the coming days and weeks. In addition, years. Moreover, this pain never ends for most, one must accept such. Furthermore, often families request privacy. However, almost always, support during this incredibly difficult time. Lastly, this spirit will become deeply missed and forever remembered. Thus, for the kindness and joy brought into the lives of those around. Lastly, lastly, God bless!
