Why Was Nord Stream Sabotaged?
Modern Military
What was the motivation behind the act? What does Russia stand to gain from its disruption?
Russia wants the price of energy to rise and in addition create instability in Europe. Russia achieved both of those objectives by blowing up the underwater pipeline that northern Europe relies upon for gas supplies. Furthermore, many countries in Europe have enacted policies to shut down their Nuclear Power plants, which as a result, puts more pressure on the need for natural gas, crude oil and coal. This is exactly what Russia wants. Russia relies on energy for 80-90% of their annual government spending. So Vladimir Putin has every intention of doing whatever he can to keep the price of energy high.
At Rebellion Research’s first ever conference on September 16th that we partnered with Cornell University, we were lucky enough to have a keynote lecture from US Navy Admiral Scott Sanders. Admiral Sanders spoke about the future instability of the oceans around the globe. Perhaps with this recent sabotage of the pipeline we have begun to see this sad reality of ocean dangers unfold?
