Where does Finland get its natural gas?

It’s now 48 hours since Russia followed through with their threat and cut off electricity exports to Finland.

As you can see from these live figures (sourced from the Swedish grid operator’s control room see here:

https://www.svk.se/om-kraftsystemet/kontrollrummet/

Swedish electricity exports are more than sufficient to make up the shortfall.

The country imports most of its gas from neighboring Russia. But gas accounts for only about 5 per cent of its annual energy consumption

Prices show no signs of panic (quite the opposite in fact), and there is even a token amount of electricity flowing from Finland to Russia (nice trolling there Finland!)

Nato membership means that Finnish military intel will be supplied with that of the rest of the Nato countries, and vice versa, and that if Finland is invaded, it will get significant support from other Nato countries. Which it would probably get anyways, but a formal membership is a better deterrent.

If Putin eats his shorts for Finland being even more able to defend itself than before, he can do that. We’re not playing the game of living in fear of his egocentric worldview.

If he wants to punish the Russian population for that by making some iron curtain. He’s free to do that as well and deal with the results, including a potential revolution or just getting ousted. Perhaps through a palace window. There are plenty of Russians looking for a way to do that right now. So that Russia can start to heal from the damage he has caused.

Putin also knows this; just look at his speech on “Victory” Day one week ago (9 May). That was the speech of a man trying to justify his egregious error in angering the world. He’s afraid that it’s about to bite him in the behind. In a big way.
