Where do culture-rich cities really live?

Where do culture-rich cities really live?

Or do small towns really possess the “rich culture” many of us search for?

Cultural traditions are an essential part of a nation’s identity. With respect to their origin and conservation. As opposed to the statement in the provided reason. My point of view is that small villages and towns are primarily the places where a nation’s cultural traditions are generated. In addition, preserved. Furthermore, it is not indispensable to offer financial aid to major cities even if they cultivate many cultural traditions, since cultural traditions are not the determinant of a city’s prosperity, and meanwhile major cities have abundant financial transactions which bring great  profits.

While it is true that as the hubs of communication major cities are tanks for all sorts of cultures.

Including the local and exotic ones, the integrated cultures are far from traditional. The diversification of the major cities through embracing people from all over the world induces the loss of cultural traditions and leads to the formation of a plural culture. In addition, major cities’ traditions are to a great extent commercialized.

There is a prevalent phenomenon that department stores use cultural traditions as a strategy to promote sales during any festival regardless of their region. In contrast, authentic traditions are usually generated. And preserved in smaller towns and villages away from frequent business activities. Citizens there are more likely to treasure the experience with friends and family during festivals. Some of whom even make a living from traditional culture, cuisine and crafts. This makes smaller towns and villages more suitable for cultural traditions’ sustainability.

Moreover, the logic implied by the given claim and reason that cultural tradition is a critical prerequisite for the flourishing of a city is disputable. Although it is reasonable that local cultures may attract some companies or patronage. A city’s potential for trade is the key for its prosperity. Which will bring profits to local companies and consequently increase the tax revenue of the municipal government.

The municipal government will then have more funds to invest in infrastructure construction. Furthermore, due to the frequent trade and business. Financial support from government is not necessary for major cities. But is vital for poorer small towns and villages whose cultural traditions are gradually lost. And need protection from the government.

Government can take the measures of promoting local tourism and investing in traditional industry to achieve conservation.

Overall, from my perspective, primarily in small towns and villages rather than cities that a nation’s cultural traditions become preserved and generated. Also, because major cities are more self-sufficient financially, governments should provide more financial aid to small towns and villages to support their economy and ensure cultural tradition preservation.
