What’s News For April 21st?
1. New short fiction story by Eliezer Yudkowsky https://www.lesswrong.com/…/uyB…/lies-told-to-children-1 (also check out his previous one which happens to be one of my favorite short stories: https://www.reddit.com/…/comments/lom9cb/kindness_to_kin/)
2. In three advances, scientists replicate—and in some cases improve on—the body’s own minimachines: Tiny labmade motors could one day suck pollutants from the air and harvest precious metals. https://www.science.org/…/tiny-labmade-motors-could-one…
3. Mechanical energy storage can be compact and very efficient. However, it usually suffers from low energy density. Carbon nanothreads can change that, with 1.76 MJ/kg already being achieved and 6.8 MJ/kg possible: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7171126/
4. Neural Network In Glass Requires No Power, Recognizes Numbers https://opg.optica.org/prj/fulltext.cfm?uri=prj-7-8-823…
5. Printing Circuits on Nanomagnets Yields New Breed of AI: Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) researchers have developed an artificial spin glass made of nanomagnets that is configured to mimic a neural network, paving the way for artificial intelligence algorithms to be printed as physical hardware. https://spectrum.ieee.org/spin-glass-nanomagnet-ai
6. Low-Power Artificial Neural Network Perceptron Based on Monolayer MoS2 https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsnano.1c07065
7. Optical neural network https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_neural_network
8. Researchers shrink camera to the size of a salt grain https://engineering.princeton.edu/…/researchers-shrink…
9. Very high rate of conspiracy belief among Gen Z and Millennials. Half of 18-24s say only whites can be successful in the United States, a third say Jews are secretly in control… https://www.skeptic.com/…/Research-Report-PCIS-005.pdf
10. U+237C ⍼ RIGHT ANGLE WITH DOWNWARDS ZIGZAG ARROW https://ionathan.ch/2022/04/09/angzarr.html
11. “…a player in the Counter-Strike online multiplayer game can detect a hidden opponent waiting in ambush, by analyzing how the 3D rendering done by the opponent’s computer induces faint but detectable signals into the opponent’s audio feed.” https://www.usenix.org/system/files/sec22summer_genkin.pdf
12. Wuhan lab can delete data in ‘explosive’ legal agreement with U.S. lab https://usrtk.org/biohazards-blog/wuhan-iab-can-delete-data/
