What pays more C++ or Python?

According to the jobs site, Indeed, C++ developer salaries average $117,000 a year. However, Python developer salaries average $109,000 a year. Of course salaries vary, but in general, the top-paid C++ developer makes more than the top-paid Python developer.

Nevertheless, we prefer Python to C++, and my reason is based on the differences between these two programming languages.

Python is a very human readable and thus convenient programming language. The bottom layer of Python is essentially C++. But it has been encapsulated and can be used directly in the Python language, Python has many advantages: Firstly, it can be used for both front end and back end development. As a result, it has a wide application. Secondly, it contains a number of refined libraries such as Pandas and Tensorflow; this makes Python very applicable in fields such as big data and machine learning, since developers can use all functions in those packages as long as they install and import them.

Thirdly, Python language avoids complex syntax so that script writing becomes easy.

For instance, writing a script using beautiful soup to extract data from a public database may only take dozens of lines in Python which in contrast may require hundreds of lines in C++. The disadvantage of Python is that because of encapsulation it cannot use pointers, which makes it slower than C++. Besides, Python usually appeals to independent developers.

On the other hand, C++ most widely finds use in game adaptation. The biggest advantage of C++ is that it has the fastest bottom layer because it can operate pointers. This is also its disadvantage because null pointers (pointers not pointing to any object) and wild pointers (pointers pointing to the wrong position) etc. cause bugs in the program. However, if the developer has a high demand on running time and speed. Moreover, C++ should be considered prior to Python, C++ is generally used for team development instead of independent development.

Overall, currently we prefer Python to C++ because Python avoids problems caused by pointers. In addition, we haven’t experienced much of the benefit brought by time saving. However, as we have more experience in projects requiring faster running times and team working. As a result, we will understand more about the advantages of C++.
