What is the market prediction for corn?
Trading and Investing
The corn market in the United States is one of the largest agricultural markets in the world. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the total value of U.S. corn production in 2020 was estimated to be over $45 billion.
In terms of volume, the USDA estimates that over 15 billion bushels of corn were produced in the United States in 2020, making it one of the most widely produced and consumed crops in the country.
The demand for corn is driven by a variety of factors:
- Corn’s use as a food staple.
- Feed for livestock.
- As a raw material for the production of ethanol and other biofuels.
The price of corn today is at $6. 74/BU.
I have observed that the price of corn is usually higher in the first half of the year than in the second half. The last six months have seen corn prices stabilize in a price range between $6.5-$7. 0 compared to the first half of last year when corn prices were around $7.5-$8.
Throughout the past five years, corn prices stabilized below $5 before the outbreak of covid, while in since 2020 to date, corn prices have generally trended upward. Compare that to a price as low as $3 in July 2020 and in April 2022 corn has a high price of $8. I believe that this is due to the fact that the epidemic caused many producers to stop working. And the globalization of the market has reduced the flow of goods, which has led to an oversupply in the corn market, resulting in an increase in prices.
I think that the price of corn will increase in the short term.
With China’s open policy, the demand for corn will increase significantly and a lot of corn will become imported. And the war between Russia and Ukraine is still going on. And Ukraine, as the largest corn exporter, will become affected by the war. As a result, increasing production costs and reducing crop output, which will certainly lead to higher corn prices.
And within the next few years, I think the price of corn has a chance to stabilize and return to the price before the epidemic. By that time, the impact of the covid will have largely subsided. As a result, the globalized market wil boom again, and supply relationships will become balanced.
