It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wade Barnes, aged 48, who left us on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, after an 18-month battle with neuroendocrine cancer. Wade was a beloved figure in the Elizabethtown community, known for his passion for soccer, his dedication to education, and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Wade’s love for soccer was evident from an early age. He, along with his two brothers, played the game with passion and skill, representing the Elizabethtown Panthers with pride. In 1992, Wade made history by becoming the only player in Elizabethtown High School’s history to score for the Panthers in a state championship game—a memory cherished by all who knew him.
A lifelong friendship with Amy Inman, which began in third grade at St. James Catholic School, continued through their years at Elizabethtown High School, where they both graduated in 1994. Wade’s love for his community extended beyond the soccer field, leading him to serve on the Elizabethtown Independent Schools Board. He was elected in November 2022 and proudly sworn in on January 17, 2023.
Wade’s dedication to his community, his love for the game of soccer, and his commitment to his family and friends will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His loss leaves a significant void in the hearts of those who loved him and in the community he served so passionately.
