Sayan Chakraborti Principal Renaissance Technologies : Quants To Watch
Sayan Chakraborti is a Principal at Renaissance Technologies LLC, one of the world’s most influential quantitative hedge funds. Since joining Renaissance in 2018, he has applied deep expertise in global macroeconomics, derivatives, and mathematical modeling to develop strategies in futures and other complex instruments. As Principal since 2021, he plays a key role in shaping the firm’s investment outlook and execution in global markets.
Prior to Renaissance, Chakraborti was a Management Associate at McKinsey & Company in New York, where he advised clients in financial services, technology, energy, and pharma on strategy, risk, operations, and advanced analytics. His diverse consulting experience helped inform his later work in data-driven finance.
Chakraborti’s earlier academic career was grounded in astrophysics. He served as a Junior Fellow at Harvard University’s Society of Fellows and an ITC Fellow in the Department of Astronomy, conducting cutting-edge research on supernovae using NASA’s Chandra Observatory. He began his research career at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, producing high-impact work on radio and X-ray observations published in Nature and The Astrophysical Journal.
Sayan holds a PhD in Astronomy from TIFR, a postdoctoral fellowship from Harvard, and a BSc in Physics from St. Xavier’s College.
