A statement by the government of the Bahamas read:

“S.B.F.’s arrest followed receipt of formal notification from the United States that it has filed criminal charges against S.B.F. and is likely to request his extradition,”

Furthermore, Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York confirmed Mr. Bankman-Fried was charged in addition, an indictment would become unsealed on Tuesday, December 13th.

A U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams released a statement that:

“Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the U.S. government, based on a sealed indictment…We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

TRM Labs’ Arid Redbord commented:

“Expect a detailed indictment laying out myriad facts in support of fraud and other criminal charges. One question is whether attorneys will challenge the extradition request and how quickly that process moves. Given the relationship between the Bahamas and the US, it is very possible that extradition could move quickly.”
