A fire broke out aboard the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov during routine maintenance. Russian authorities called the fire “minor”. However the Russian government constantly lies to the foreign press. As a result the Russian government has very little credibility when it comes to the truth.

The Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has seen a number of issues and problems over the years. These include mechanical and technical issues, as well as problems with its propulsion system and aircraft operations. The ship has also had accidents and incidents, including a fire in December 2020 that caused significant damage.

Commissioned in 1990. It is the only aircraft carrier in the Russian Navy, in addition, primarily finds use as a training vessel and a platform for naval aviation. It is not capable of launching planes like a traditional aircraft carrier, because it does not have a ski jump ramp or a catapult system. Instead, it relies on an inclined deck and a steam-powered arresting gear to launch and recover its aircraft.

The Admiral Kuznetsov has a small air wing of about a dozen fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter, which are mainly used for training and support missions. It is not designed for sustained combat operations, and it does not have the capacity to carry a large number of aircraft or the necessary support infrastructure.

The Kuznetsov has consistently faced problems with its propulsion system over the years. One issue has been the reliability of its steam turbine engines, which have often broken down or required significant maintenance. In addition, the ship has also had problems with its boilers, which have caused further issues with its propulsion system.

Lastly, despite undergoing several modernization and repair campaigns, it remains a relatively old and limited vessel.
