Molloy University has announced that its Spring 2026 Commencement Exercises will return to the iconic Northwell at Jones Beach Theater on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., continuing a tradition that has become one of the most anticipated academic celebrations on Long Island.

More than 1,000 graduates are expected to receive degrees as part of the Class of 2026. The university will confer 703 bachelor’s degrees, 295 master’s degrees, 30 doctoral degrees, along with additional academic honors and certifications. Thousands of family members, friends, faculty, and supporters are expected to attend the outdoor ceremony overlooking the Great South Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Award-winning education journalist Jo Napolitano will deliver the commencement address and receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Napolitano has built a national reputation for investigative reporting focused on education access, immigrant student rights, and social mobility. Her work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Newsday, and The 74.

“Jo’s reporting has brought national attention to barriers facing immigrant and underserved students, shaping conversations on educational access and driving policy changes that have expanded school opportunities across multiple states and cities,” said Dr. James P. Lentini, President of Molloy University. “We look forward to the wisdom and insight she will impart to our graduates.”

The university also announced its top academic honorees for the Class of 2026. Isabella Schaefer of East Rockaway will serve as Valedictorian, while Grace Wilson of Hicksville has been named Salutatorian.

Schaefer, a biology education major in the School of Education and Human Services, has distinguished herself through academic excellence, leadership, and service. A Noyce Scholar and Ambassador, she plans to teach in a high-needs school district after graduation. Her work with sustainability-focused science education initiatives and her leadership as President of Molloy Student Government helped make her one of the university’s most respected student leaders.

Wilson, an interdisciplinary studies major in the School of Arts and Sciences, earned recognition for her intellectual rigor and commitment to community service. Faculty members praised her advanced work in theology and philosophy, often describing her scholarship as exceeding undergraduate expectations. She has also contributed extensively through Campus Ministries, the Appalachia Project, and the university’s Honors Advisory Council.

“Isabella and Grace represent the very best of Molloy University,” said Dr. Michelle Piskulich, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Together, they embody the spirit of service and purpose that defines Molloy University and will undoubtedly inspire our graduates as they step forward into lives of impact and meaning.”

Founded in 1955 by the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, Molloy University serves approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students across a wide range of programs including nursing, business, education, social work, allied health sciences, and music therapy. The university continues to expand its profile as one of Long Island’s leading Catholic institutions focused on academic achievement, professional preparation, and service-driven leadership.
