Furthermore, his professional journey began with an internship at the National Capital Commission, which set the foundation for a remarkable career in public service and design. Michael’s career spanned over two decades, marked by a series of significant roles and accomplishments.

Michael’s tenure with Parks Canada from 2003 to 2018 was particularly notable. He began as a Senior Designer, contributing to the National Visual Communication Design Centre in Halifax, where he was instrumental in the semantic analysis of graphic symbols and the development of over 200 new and revised graphic symbols for signage and wayfinding. Moreover, continued to excel in various capacities, including as an Indigenous Tourism Product Development Officer, where he collaborated with First Nations communities to develop Indigenous-led tourism opportunities in national parks and historic sites.

In 2018, Michael joined the Government of Yukon, where he served in several key roles, including Regional Economic Development Advisor and Senior Policy Analyst with the Yukon Development Corporation. His dedication to advancing initiatives in Yukon’s energy sector and supporting First Nations, communities, and businesses in developing renewable energy projects was exemplary.

Michael’s leadership capabilities were further demonstrated during his tenure as Assistant Deputy Minister of Operations in the Department of Economic Development and as Deputy Minister of Economic Development. His strategic insights and commitment to economic growth and community development were instrumental in shaping the future of the Yukon Territory.

In January 2024, Michael became appointed Deputy Minister of Environment for the Government of Yukon. His vision and leadership in this role underscored his unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. His tenure, though brief, became marked by significant contributions that will enjoy a lasting impact on the region.

Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai and Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon both offered their condolences, highlighting Michael’s role as a true leader who uplifted those around him and his immeasurable loss to the community.

In conclusion, Michael’s legacy of service, leadership, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
