Meet Our Rebellion Research Interns : Thomas Heath

Thomas Heath is currently in his eleventh grade year at Trinity School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. While he holds a particular interest in STEM-related courses, he also has enjoyed the processes of exploring different periods of history and literature in his time at Trinity, expanding his abilities as a persuasive writer along the way.

Thomas has found that he has particularly excelled in hypothesis testing and work with confidence intervals in his work in statistics this year, and he has also found strengths in function-based mathematics. With a focus on science, transitioning this year from Chemistry to Biology, he has not only enjoyed studying natural equilibriums and interactions between organic molecules but he has also found great interest in examining the areas in which the two courses mentioned above intersect. In addition to his academic work at Trinity, Thomas has spent time studying in the field of economics and marketing at Oxford University and has used his knowledge to bring learning opportunities to those in the communities around him.

Returning to school this Fall, Thomas and a classmate of his took lead roles in managing a student-led organization at Trinity called Youth Marketing NYC; hosting guest speakers from some of the most prominent firms around the world, Thomas has felt that he has not only given himself but also others a great opportunity to learn about the field of marketing from people with undeniable expertise. At Rebellion Research, Thomas is eager to further explore the intersection between economics and Machine Learning, and is excited to pick up as much knowledge as he can from those around him.

Outside of the classroom, Thomas has always maintained a strong connection with the outdoors, getting outside to fish and enjoy nature as much as possible. He enjoys traveling down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the summer, as it provides for him an escape from life in the Big Apple. As nature has played such a key role in Thomas’s childhood, he hopes to be able to take part in maintaining and protecting natural ecosystems as he continues to grow up, particularly as it pertains to coastal wetlands and estuaries. Additionally, an avid baseball player, Thomas has played for travel teams for the past eight years and is a part of Trinity’s Varsity Baseball team. Mainly playing 1st and 3rd base, he excitedly awaits the Spring!
