Based in Greenwich, CT, Manish has built a career marked by a deep understanding of global equity markets and a unique approach to investment management. His journey is not just a tale of positions held, but a narrative of innovation, resilience, and strategic foresight in the world of finance.

Educated at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Manish pursued an MBA between 1992 and 1994, where he engaged with eminent figures like Eugene Fama and Kenneth French. He also holds a BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Philosophy from the University of Scranton, completing it in 1990. These academic pursuits laid the foundation for a career characterized by analytical rigor and an interdisciplinary approach.

Manish began his professional journey as a Software Engineering Intern at Microsoft in 1989, where he developed software for testing graphics drivers. This role was an early indication of his technological acumen, which would later become integral to his financial career. After graduation, he joined Financial Sciences as a Programmer/Analyst (1990-1992), where he designed investment management and reporting software.

His role at US Trust in 1992 as a Consultant saw him improving the quality of the municipal bond trust system, demonstrating his adaptability and expertise in finance. Following this, Manish’s career took a significant turn towards risk management and analytics. At Nomura Securities (1993-1995), he conducted research in Mortgage Backed Securities and Real Estate Investment Trusts. His tenure at BlackRock (1995-1996) was marked by his involvement in the initial architecture of a credit risk analysis system.

Manish’s expertise in risk management systems was further solidified at JP Morgan Chase & Co. and JP Morgan, where he served as a Market Risk Consultant (1996-1997) and a Credit Risk System Consultant (1997) respectively. His contributions in designing a Value at Risk system for the Chase/Chemical merger and developing a Massively Parallel system for Fixed Income/FX derivatives were groundbreaking.

In 1998, he took on the role of a Foreign Exchange Analytics Consultant at Merrill Lynch, modifying trading systems for the European Economic and Monetary Union transition. His tenure as the Chief Technology Officer/Consultant at FXCM in 2001 was pivotal, where he designed high-volume server architecture, demonstrating his ability to manage complex technology in high-stakes environments.

Manish then founded Vidya Capital LLC in 2004, where as Managing Principal, he ran a concentrated equity long/short book based on Rational Investing valuations. His experience in negative selection and risk measurement contributed significantly to his acumen in investment strategy.

Finally, his journey led him to co-found Rational Investing LLC in 1999. Here, Manish has applied his vast experience to construct portfolios and sub-advise based on a Standardized DCF Valuation system. His competitive edge in upstream energy, materials, and cyclicals, coupled with his market-neutral history and profound understanding of asset bases, has established him as a distinguished figure in the investment world.

Manish Aurora’s career is a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence in finance, marked by his deep-rooted knowledge in technology, risk management, and investment strategy.
