Macrae Sykes is a seasoned portfolio manager and global research leader at GAMCO Investors Inc., where he has spent more than 17 years shaping investment strategy across mutual funds, closed-end funds, ETFs, and separately managed accounts. He serves as the sole Portfolio Manager of the Gabelli Financial Services Opportunities ETF, traded on the NYSE under the ticker GABF, and plays a key role within the broader Gabelli Asset Management platform founded by Mario Gabelli in 1977.
Sykes is also Associate Portfolio Manager of the Gabelli Equity Trust, Gabelli Dividend and Income Trust, and Gabelli Asset Fund, while overseeing high net worth and institutional mandates. As a member of Gabelli’s 40 plus person global research team, he contributes sector expertise within the firm’s Private Market Value with a Catalyst methodology, a framework that has defined Gabelli’s disciplined, value driven approach for decades.
His analytical excellence has earned industry wide recognition. He was ranked number one in Investment Services in The Wall Street Journal Best on the Street Analyst Survey in 2010, number two in Capital Markets by Starmine in 2014, and number three in Capital Markets by Starmine in 2018. He is frequently quoted by Barron’s, Bloomberg, CNBC, Financial Times, Reuters, and Pensions and Investments, among others. In 2018, he contributed an essay to The Warren Buffett Shareholder by Lawrence Cunningham, reflecting his close engagement with long term value investing principles.
Beyond portfolio management, Sykes leads the annual Gabelli institutional leadership conference held in conjunction with the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting, reinforcing his deep ties to the value investing community.
He holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hamilton College.
