The travel industry is mourning the loss of Karen Rondan, a beloved colleague and industry professional, who passed away last week. Karen was widely recognized for her significant contributions to the field, particularly during her time at Classic Collection, where she managed long-haul sales and marketing. More recently, she served as the Bermuda Tourism Agency Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, and had also worked at Pickfords in St Neots.
Karen’s passing was announced by Gemma Lazenby, Etihad Head of Commercial B2B, who described her as ‘an inspiration’ and praised her ‘energy, kindness, and positivity’. Karen’s long and distinguished travel career included organizing remarkable agent events at Classic Collection and representing various hotels during her tenure with the Bermuda Tourist Office.
Friends and colleagues remember Karen for her heartfelt dedication and vibrant personality. One Travel Gossip member noted that Karen ‘put her heart and soul into everything she did’, while others described her as ‘bubbly, enthusiastic, and one of a kind’. Another colleague recalled a memorable fam trip to Sardinia, highlighting Karen’s adventurous spirit and her knack for making things happen.
Karen’s tenacity and positivity shone brightly throughout her battle with breast cancer, a journey she began in 2016. Despite being allergic to chemotherapy and other treatments, which led to the cancer spreading to her spine and causing paralysis, Karen maintained her upbeat demeanor. She spent several months in a hospice in 2017, where she publicly thanked the staff at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall for their exceptional care in a local newspaper article.
