16-Year-Old Jayvion Jones Identified as Victim in Sumter County Shooting
Sumter County, SC – September 4, 2024 – The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has identified 16-year-old Jayvion Jones, of Hampton, GA, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday night. Authorities confirmed that Jones died at the scene from his injuries after being found in a car near the intersection of Black River Road and Edens Road in Dalzell.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. Sheriff Anthony Dennis described the circumstances surrounding Jones’s death as suspicious, and an investigation is currently underway. Every available resource is being used to gather facts, officials said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday at the Medical University in Charleston to determine the exact cause of death.
