James H. Roberts Identified as Victim in Fatal Two-Semi Crash in Dorsey
Edwardsville, IL – September 5, 2024 – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal two-semi collision that occurred on September 3 in Dorsey as James H. Roberts, 67, of Alton. The tragic accident took place at approximately 3:28 p.m. on Illinois 159 near North Deer Park Drive.
According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, Roberts was operating a tractor-trailer hauling rock southbound on Illinois 159 when a northbound dump truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with his vehicle. The dump truck had reportedly braked to avoid hitting a fuel tanker that was stopped in the northbound lanes, waiting to make a turn.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:53 p.m. An autopsy performed by the coroner’s office revealed that the preliminary cause of death was blunt trauma to the head, neck, and chest. Final conclusions will be made after routine toxicological tests are completed.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Illinois State Police and the ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the accident.
