Obituary for Jakob Gottfriedson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Jakob Gottfriedson, who left us far too soon on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Jakob, 18, was eagerly looking forward to his graduation from Valleyview Secondary School, a milestone that he will now never celebrate.
Known for his infectious smile and vibrant spirit, Jakob was a beloved member of the Kamloops community. He was especially active in the local hockey scene, where his passion and energy on the ice made him a standout player and a cherished teammate.

Jakob’s sudden departure leaves an unexpected and deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, particularly his devoted mother and four loving sisters. They, along with the entire Valleyview Secondary School community, are mourning the loss of a bright young man whose future was brimming with potential.
The fatal motor vehicle accident occurred in the 2300-block of the East Trans Canada Highway. According to the Kamloops RCMP, Jakob was in an eastbound sedan that veered off the highway and struck a power pole.
In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, an online fundraiser has become organized by Sarah Thomas to support Jakob’s family during this difficult time. Sarah recalls Jakob as “a vibrant soul with an infectious smile,” a sentiment echoed by all who knew him.
Jakob will become deeply missed by his family, friends, teammates, and the entire Kamloops community. His legacy of joy and enthusiasm will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service to honor Jakob’s life will become held at a later date. The community is invited to come together to remember and celebrate the life of a remarkable young man who touched so many lives.
