Is Walmart getting into cryptocurrency? It looks like Walmart is entering the world of Cryptocurrency! Walmart just recently filed seven different applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office in December. Moreover, these applications outline Walmart’s plans to launch its own cryptocurrency, NFTs, possible payment system, e-wallets and more.
Walmart “is preparing to create its own cryptocurrency and collection of non-fungible tokens,” seeking “several new trademarks . . . that show it intends to make and sell virtual goods such as electronics, decor, toys, sporting goods and personal-care products.”
Just last summer, Walmart advertised for a position to develop “the digital currency strategy and product roadmap” (check out this LI post on it – https://lnkd.in/dSFY4G2N) while identifying “crypto-related investment and partnerships.”
While so far it was just an internet hoax that Walmart was beginning to accept crypto. Apparently the hoax was an attempt at pumping the price of #litecoin. For more information on this pump scheme please check out this Linkedin post – https://lnkd.in/dSFY4G2N.
It is only a matter of time before the world’s largest retailer takes crypto for payment.
Over the last year or so we have seen a steady drumbeat toward mainstream adoption of digital assets – from Standard Chartered Bank to Citi, Goldman Sachs to J.P. Morgan.
In 2022 will we see that that trend continue?
In conclusion, that is the news I am looking for in my inbox every morning.
