Twitter officially hires Igor Babuschkin to work on a ChatGPT competitor.

Elon Musk confirmed that he will use Twitter data to build his own ChatGPT and Igor Babuschkin will be a part of this team.

Igor Babuschkin is a well-known young researcher who has recently left Google parent Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit. Prior to getting into deep learning, he studied physics at Large Hadron Collider at CERN as a summer research student.

He served for two separate stints at the Google subsidiary. He also worked at DeepMind between 2017 to 2020 as Senior Research Engineer. During a big gap of 17 months between two stints at DeepMind, he has also worked as a member of the technical staff at OpenAI, based in San Francisco.

During Babuschkin’s second term at the Deepmind, he was a Senior Staff Research Engineer from April 2022 to February 2023.

He will become joined by another software engineer from DeepMind, Manuel Kroiss. Manuel will serve as the new senior director of software engineering at Twitter.

DeepMind is a leading artificial intelligence (AI) research company founded in London, England in 2010. The company became acquired by Google in 2015. And is now part of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company.

DeepMind’s primary focus is on developing AI technologies that can learn and solve complex problems.

Moreover, in a manner similar to humans. They use deep learning and reinforcement learning techniques to build AI systems that can perform tasks such as playing complex games, understanding natural language, and predicting protein folding.

One of DeepMind’s most well-known achievements is the development of AlphaGo. An AI program that became the first computer program to defeat a human world champion in the game of Go. DeepMind has also applied its technology to healthcare, with projects such as using AI to diagnose eye disease and to predict kidney injury in patients.

DeepMind became known for its strong research culture. And its researchers regularly publish papers in top academic conferences and journals. The company has also established partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world to collaborate on cutting-edge AI research.
