Every depositor thinks the same thing today! Are my funds safe?

As a result of reading every day more and more frightening headlines!

Banks failing everywhere!

Are we in a financial crisis?

Now some worry Will Bank of America Collapse? And many others worry whether or not there is a Hawaii Bank Run? And of course, many others worry about the more local establishments. Will First Republic Bank Fail ?

Let’s take a look at the largest banks in the industry!

Below we have a chart showing unrealized depreciation on Hold to Maturity Securities (HTM) for top 100 banks versus equity.

These unrealized losses are NOT reflected in profits or a deduct to equity via Other Comprehensive Income (OCI) – only in the footnotes! Moreover, we don’t find these losses reflected in stress tests or measures of capital adequacy.

Furthermore a 25 bp (1/4 of 1 percent) increase in rates for a 10-year security causes approximately 2 points in losses (100 par to 98 to reflect yield discount).

KeyCorp is a bank holding company that is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. The company operates KeyBank, which is a regional bank with branches in 15 states. Here is a brief overview of the history of KeyCorp and KeyBank:

KeyCorp was founded in 1825 as the Commercial Bank of Albany in Albany, New York.

In the early years of the bank, it primarily served the local community in Albany, but it later expanded its services to other parts of New York and neighboring states.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the bank expanded through a series of mergers and acquisitions, acquiring several smaller banks in New York and Ohio.

In 1969, the bank changed its name to Key Bank and moved its headquarters to Cleveland, Ohio.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Key Bank continued to expand through acquisitions, purchasing several banks in Ohio, Michigan, and other states.

In 1994, Key Bank merged with Society Corporation, a Cleveland-based bank holding company, to become KeyCorp.

Moreover, in the early 2000s, KeyCorp expanded into the Pacific Northwest through the acquisition of Pacific Crest Bank in Washington State and McDonald Investments in Ohio.

In 2008, during the global financial crisis, KeyCorp received $2.5 billion in funds from the U.S. Treasury’s Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

In recent years, KeyBank has focused on digital transformation, launching several new digital banking products and services, and expanding its presence in key markets.

Today, KeyCorp is one of the largest banks in the United States, with over 1,100 branches in 15 states and assets of over $170 billion.

And as well know, if we keep less than $250,000 in one account, we have the backing of the FDIC!
