IIM Nagpur and Western Coalfields Limited Forge Partnership to Advance Leadership Development

Nagpur, July 17, 2025 — The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM Nagpur) and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) have announced a new collaboration designed to elevate leadership and managerial capabilities within India’s energy sector. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at WCL’s headquarters in Nagpur, setting the stage for a series of specialized Management Development Programmes (MDPs).
The agreement was formalized in the presence of key representatives from both institutions. Signing on behalf of WCL was Shri U.C. Gupta, General Manager of Human Resource Development, while Dr. Alok Kumar Singh, Dean of Executive Education, signed for IIM Nagpur. Among those attending were Dr. Hemant Sharat Pande, Director (HR) at WCL, and Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, who remarked on the importance of the partnership.
“This collaboration represents a significant move toward cultivating leadership excellence in India’s core industries,” said Dr. Metri. “At IIM Nagpur, we remain committed to shaping future-ready leaders, and this partnership with WCL aligns perfectly with that mission—focusing on innovation, sustainability, and skill development.”
The Management Development Programmes planned under this initiative will address critical themes such as strategic management, leadership, human resource development, and organizational effectiveness. These programs aim to equip WCL’s managerial workforce with the knowledge and skills required to navigate evolving industry challenges and contribute to national growth objectives.
Also present at the event were senior officials from both organizations, including Dr. Sapan Kumar Singh from IIM Nagpur’s Executive Education team and senior WCL executives involved in corporate social responsibility and human resource management.
This partnership highlights IIM Nagpur’s growing role in executive education and its commitment to supporting capacity building across India’s public sector enterprises. For WCL, it reflects a forward-thinking approach to workforce development, emphasizing continuous learning and leadership preparedness in an industry undergoing transformation.
