In a move that aligns closely with India’s long term clean energy and sustainability goals, Indian Institute of Management Nagpur and ONGC Green Limited formalized a strategic partnership on December 20 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The collaboration focuses on research, capacity building, and policy oriented initiatives across green and future energy domains.
The agreement brings together academic expertise and on the ground operational experience at a time when India’s energy sector is undergoing rapid structural change. The partnership is designed to support the country’s broader transition toward sustainable energy systems while contributing to national targets on emissions reduction and energy security.
Leadership from both institutions emphasized the importance of aligning education, research, and industry execution. ONGC Green highlighted its focus on emerging energy solutions, including energy storage systems, biofuels, and advanced technologies such as green hydrogen. These areas are expected to play a central role in India’s pathway toward achieving net zero emissions by 2070.
From the academic side, IIM Nagpur underscored the global attention on India’s clean energy progress and the responsibility of institutions to contribute rigorous research, leadership development, and policy insight. The institute aims to leverage its strengths in management education, executive programs, and policy research to help shape the future energy ecosystem.
Under the MoU, joint work will span environmental sustainability and ESG frameworks, renewable energy integration into power grids, carbon and green credit markets, energy storage technologies, e mobility policy, and leadership development for the energy sector. The collaboration is structured to combine theory and practice, ensuring that research outcomes remain closely tied to real world implementation.
The partnership is also expected to deliver tangible benefits for citizens by supporting cleaner and more reliable power, expanding access to affordable sustainable energy, creating green employment opportunities, and contributing to improved public health outcomes. By strengthening institutional and industry linkages, the initiative seeks to support inclusive growth alongside environmental responsibility.
ONGC Green serves as the renewable energy arm of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and is leading the organization’s plan to reach ten gigawatts of green energy capacity by 2030. Its portfolio includes solar, wind, energy storage, biofuels, and green hydrogen projects. Academic and policy support from IIM Nagpur is expected to reinforce these efforts while contributing to India’s broader clean energy and climate objectives.
Together, IIM Nagpur and ONGC Green aim to play a meaningful role in shaping India’s future energy landscape by aligning innovation, policy, and execution in support of sustainable national development.
