Why did Titanic Sink : A Scientific Analysis

Here is a brief history of Carpathia’s involvement with the Titanic sinking. April 14 at 23:40, Titanic hits an iceberg and proceeds to sink at 2:20am on the 15th.

The Carpathia, which was en route to New York from Europe, receives a distress signal from Titanic and immediately diverts its course to assist in the rescue efforts.

On April 15-16, the Carpathia navigates ice fields to reach the Titanic’s location and begins picking up survivors who were in lifeboats.

Was it a miracle that Carpathia could find Titanic’s survivors in the middle of the Atlantic? Especially when you consider that Titanic’s radio operators sent out the wrong position in their distress call. Due to a faulty sextant reading by a Titanic crew member earlier in the evening of April 15th.

No, it was not a miracle that Carpathia found Titanic’s lifeboats.

North Atlantic iceberg

The Carpathia located the lifeboats because they were using distress flares that they fired into the air to signal their boats’ location.

This is a scanned copy of the photographic print of the iceberg with which the RMS TITANIC supposedly collided on April 14, 1912. This print was in possession of Captain De Carteret, the Captain of the Cable ship MINIA, reportedly stated that this was the only iceberg near the scene of the collision. The MINIA was one of the first ships to reach the scene following the disaster. It was dispatched after the Western Union Cable ship MACKAY BENNET by White Star Lines to recover debris from the Titanic. During this operation, the MINIA found debris and bodies floating in the vicinity of the above iceberg. Therefore, it is assumed that this is the iceberg that the TITANIC struck. Captain De Carteret gave the print to Captain A. L. Gamble, Commanding Officer of the USCGC SENECA.

The crew of the Carpathia acted heroically to rescue as many survivors as possible in very difficult conditions, and their efforts were crucial in saving the lives of many Titanic passengers.

The ship “Minia” joined the search for victims of the “Titanic” crash. Here, the crew retrieves a body of the deceased.

However, their success in locating the lifeboats was due to their training, experience, and the use of appropriate rescue techniques, rather than any supernatural intervention or miracle.

Arthur Rostron RD, RNR, served as captain of the RMS Carpathia. He is known for his crucial role in spearheading the ship’s rescue of survivors from the RMS Titanic.

The Carpathia arrived in New York in the evening of April 18, 1912. Its arrival was delayed due to bad weather at sea. Since there had been many erroneous newspaper stories about the number of those rescued from the Titanic. Including one that claimed the ship was damaged and afloat, being towed to Halifax, Nova Scotia, the real extent of the loss of life wasn’t evident until the survivors of the disaster arrived in New York.

Then on April 18, 1912: The Carpathia arrived in New York with 705 survivors of the Titanic disaster.

After its involvement in the Titanic disaster, the Carpathia continued to operate as a passenger liner for several more years.

However, during World War I, the ship became requisitioned by the British government and used as a troop transport.

On July 17, 1918, while on a voyage from Liverpool to Boston, the Carpathia became torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat U55 off the coast of Ireland.
