How Can A Student Save The Ocean?

The changing climate is already impacting the lives of millions of people and operations of thousands of businesses around the world. Willing to contribute our share to a better and more sustainable world, we, Bart Baesens and Tim Verdonck, founded BlueCourses on August 10th, 2019. Bart Baesens is a professor of Data Science at KU Leuven. He co-authored more than 250 scientific papers and 10 books.
Furthermore, listed in the top 2% of Stanford University’s new Database of Top Scientists in the World. And named one of the World’s top educators in Data Science by CDO magazine in 2021. Tim Verdonck is a professor at KU Leuven and the University of Antwerp. He co-authored more than 50 papers on topics related to analytics, statistics, and robust modeling.

The missing statement of BlueCourses is twofold.
Firstly, we would like to disseminate knowledge by offering on-line courses on Business Analytics and its applications in Fraud, Credit Risk, Marketing, Text analysis, etc. All of the courses are delivered by internationally recognized professors in the field.
They provide a sound mix of theoretical concepts and methods combined with practical insights and case studies.

Our second goal is to contribute our share in cleaning up our precious oceans from plastic.
Hence, we invest at least 20% of our EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes) to companies cleaning up our oceans from plastic.
Since its founding, BlueCourses is offering 20 courses on topics such as Machine Learning essentials, Fraud Analytics, Credit Risk Modeling, Deep Learning, Text Analytics, Ethics & AI, Customer Lifetime Value Modeling, Quantum Machine Learning, Web Scraping, Geospatial analytics and Recommender Systems.
One of our most recent and most popular courses is a course on Fundamentals of Climate Risk Management which discusses Climate Change, Climate Risk Management, Carbon Net Strategies, Climate Disclosures and Stress Testing. Each course consists of recorded videos which the customer can see an unlimited number of times during one year.

A NOAA scientist removes derelict fishing gear from the reefs of Pearl and Hermes Atoll. These non-biodegradable nets and devices can continue to catch fish and marine organisms for centuries, but would eventually be integrated into the reef as and when it grows
All BlueCourses courses provide a sound mix of both theoretical and technical insights, as well as practical implementation details and guidance.
Illustrated by several real-life case studies and examples. All courses also feature code examples in R, Python and SAS with accompanying tutorials for newcomers in the field.
To optimize the learning experience, the courses become interactively designed with multiple choice questions and discussions. Certificates are provided upon course completion and can be easily posted on LinkedIn or other social media. Throughout each course, the instructors also extensively report upon their research and industry experience.
At BlueCourses, we are proud to have accumulated a substantial customer portfolio with customers such as banks (e.g., HSBC, Deutsche bank, Santander), consulting firms (e.g. PwC, EY), (on-line) retailers, Telco providers, insurers, regulators, universities (e.g., IESEG), etc.

The area of increased plastic particles is located within the North Pacific Gyre, one of the five major ocean gyres.
Thanks to our continuously expanding customer base BlueCourses became a partner of Waste Free Oceans and WWF. We feel proud in contributing our share to a cleaner, more sustainable and better world. And are continuously on the lookout to expand our instructor, course and customer base.
We hope you enjoyed learning about our project and look forward to welcoming you at BlueCourses!
