Bicyclist Killed in Crash with Pickup Truck in Florence County
FLORENCE COUNTY, SC – A tragic collision between a pickup truck and a bicycle claimed the life of 29-year-old Harley Howell, a resident of Johnsonville, on Sunday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around noon on Vox Highway near the intersection with Mill Branch Road. Both the 2022 Toyota Tacoma and Howell’s bicycle were traveling east when the collision occurred. Howell was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller.
Neither the driver nor the passenger of the pickup truck sustained any injuries in the crash. It is unclear whether Howell was wearing a helmet or if the occupants of the truck were using seat belts at the time of the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
