Gordon Ritter Named Quant Educator of the Year 2025
2025 Generative Ai Investing Summit & 2025 Wall Street Quant Awards
Gordon Ritter has been selected as the Quant Educator of the Year for 2025. He will receive the award at the London Stock Exchange on December 3rd. This honor recognizes his impact on quantitative finance, his commitment to education, and his long record of innovation in research and industry.
Gordon Ritter completed his PhD in mathematical physics at Harvard University in 2007. His work there covered quantum field theory, differential geometry, quantum computation, and abstract algebra. He produced respected results in areas such as Euclidean quantum field theory on Riemannian manifolds and a well known simplicity theorem for Kac Moody groups. Before Harvard, he earned his mathematics degree with honors from the University of Chicago.
Dr. Ritter teaches at Columbia University, New York University, the University of Chicago, and the Baruch MFE program. His academic research focuses on portfolio optimization and statistical machine learning. His publications appear in leading journals such as Risk, the Journal of Portfolio Management, the Journal of Financial Data Science, and the European Journal of Operations Research. His citation record reflects influential work in reinforcement learning, Bayesian portfolio theory, and quantitative trading.
His industry career is equally notable. He was named Buy Side Quant of the Year in 2019, a distinction shared with well known researchers such as Marcos Lopez de Prado, Alex Lipton, and Jean Philippe Bouchaud in other years. Dr. Ritter founded Ritter Alpha LP in 2019. The firm runs systematic absolute return strategies across global asset classes using advanced statistics and scientific methods.
Before launching Ritter Alpha, he designed and built a successful trading system at GSA Capital. The firm won the Equity Market Neutral and Quantitative Strategies category at the Eurohedge Awards multiple times. Prior to GSA, he served as a Vice President at Highbridge Capital Management. He was a core member of a small statistical arbitrage team that generated significant profit and executed trillions of dollars of trades across equities, futures, and options. Several senior members of that team later joined him at Ritter Alpha.
Dr. Ritter remains active outside finance as well. He enjoys scuba diving in Hawaii and supports the preservation of Native Hawaiian culture and marine ecosystems.
He continues to publish new research, teach advanced quantitative methods, and mentor students at top universities. His work in machine learning, optimal trading, and portfolio design has helped shape modern quantitative finance. His commitment to education makes him a fitting recipient of the Quant Educator of the Year award.
