Fordham Quant Conference Speaker Amit Gandhi Wins Quantitative Economics Best Paper Award from the Econometric Society
QuantVision 2025: Fordham’s Quantitative Conference & Data Summit
We are proud to announce that Amit Gandhi, Vice President and Technical Fellow at Airbnb, will be a featured speaker at this year’s Fordham Quantitative Finance Conference.
Amit brings a distinguished background in applied econometrics and tech-driven innovation, and we are especially excited to spotlight his recent achievement: his co-authored paper on estimating demand with sparse market data has just been awarded the Quantitative Economics Best Paper Award by the Econometric Society—one of the highest honors in the field.

This groundbreaking work challenges traditional approaches by embracing the informational value of “zero” entries in demand data. Rather than aggregating away these absences, Amit and his collaborators, Zhentong Lu and Xiaoxia Shi, developed a structural model that treats sparse demand observations as central to robust economic inference—a perspective deeply informed by Amit’s experience at the intersection of tech and economics.
We look forward to learning from Amit on the implications of this research for policy, business strategy, and the evolving role of quantitative methods in today’s data-scarce environments.
