Three people, including a Creekside Middle School teacher and his wife, tragically lost their lives in a fiery collision in New Smyrna Beach. The incident occurred on Wednesday around 8:35 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Inlet Shores Drive, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.

The victims were identified as Matt Cindric, 42, and his wife, Fawne Cindric, 45. Both were in a Nissan sedan that collided with a motorcycle driven by 27-year-old Justin Sexton from Holly Hill. The collision caused the vehicle to catch fire, resulting in the deaths of all three individuals at the scene.

A social media post by Rep. Chase Tramont and a statement from Creekside Middle School confirmed the identities of the deceased couple. Matt Cindric was a beloved teacher at Creekside Middle School, where he had a profound impact both in the classroom and as a youth sports umpire and referee. John Cash, Chief of Staff at the school, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Matt was part of the heartbeat of that school. The entire Port Orange Community mourns the loss of this loving couple.”

Rep. Chase Tramont, a long-time friend of the Cindrics, shared his grief on Facebook, noting, “Family and friends, our community is grieving. Our hearts are broken, and our most fervent prayers go out to all who knew my dear childhood friends, Fawne and Matt Cindric, along with the other young man involved in this tragedy.”

The school announced that a grief support team will be available to students and staff starting Monday to help cope with the loss.

Moreover, Rep. Tramont, who had known the couple for nearly 30 years, shared that he and Matt Cindric attended different high schools. However, remained close over the years. Matt went on to study at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while Tramont attended Flagler College.
