It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Macken, aged 41, who tragically lost his life following a pedestrian accident on August 19th, 2024, in South Charlotte, North Carolina. Eric was struck by a vehicle in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Pineville Matthews Road and Providence Road. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Eric succumbed to his injuries on August 20th.
Eric was a devoted father, loving son, and cherished friend to many. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those he loved, Eric touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his spirit will continue to live on through the memories he created and the love he shared.
The accident occurred when a Dodge Ram, driven by Scott Austin, failed to stop at a red light, leading to a collision with a GMC Yukon. The impact caused the Ram to spin and strike Eric, who was in the crosswalk, as well as a Volkswagen. A warrant was issued for misdemeanor death by vehicle, and Austin has since turned himself in to authorities.
