On November 8, 2024, around 5:00 p.m., a fatal three-vehicle crash occurred on Nelson Road near Plantation Drive in Calcasieu Parish, claiming the life of 60-year-old Donna Chimeno of Lake Charles. Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating shortly after the incident.
The preliminary report shows that Chimeno, driving a 2019 Honda HR-V, was heading south in the outside lane on Nelson Road. Meanwhile, a 2024 Jeep Cherokee traveled south in the inside lane. For reasons still under review, the Honda moved left, directly into the Jeep’s path. The Jeep’s front struck the Honda’s rear, pushing the Honda across the centerline into the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2022 Ford delivery van.
Sadly, Chimeno suffered fatal injuries despite becoming properly restrained. In addition, pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the occupants of both the Ford and the Jeep, all of whom were also restrained, were unharmed. While impairment, not suspected, standard toxicology tests became conducted on all three drivers.
