Deh’maurieon Denmark Obituary
In Midwest City, the tragic shooting of a 14-year-old boy at Tom Poore Park has left the community shaken. The quiet park, typically a place for leisure and recreation, became the scene of a fatal incident on Sunday evening, Sept. 10, 2024.
Just after 7:30 p.m., Midwest City police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the park, which stretches between Hazelwood Drive and NE 10th Street, cutting through the serene neighborhood along Soldier Creek. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 14-year-old Deh’maurieon Denmark suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures, but despite their efforts, Deh’maurieon was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the initial police reports, the shooting occurred during what appeared to be an argument, though further details about the confrontation or any suspects have not been released. Police identified Deh’maurieon Denmark on Wednesday, but the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not provided any additional updates as of Tuesday.
In the wake of the tragedy, the mood in the neighborhood has been somber. Around noon on Tuesday, life in the park seemed to continue in its usual rhythm, with joggers and walkers using the trails that form part of the Spirit Trails Network. Yet, a sense of unease lingered, with locals grappling with the shock of violence in their typically peaceful environment.
Residents on both sides of Soldier Creek, which runs through the park, have expressed mixed emotions. While some remain deeply rattled by the incident, others continue to use the park, determined not to let fear disrupt their daily routines. The community is now waiting for more answers as the police continue their investigation.
Midwest City Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, as they work to bring justice for Deh’maurieon and his grieving family.
