History
The university’s origins trace back to 1928 when Anhui University was established in Anqing. In 1935, it began its journey as an agricultural college under the umbrella of Anhui University.
In December 1949, Anhui University relocated from Anqing to Wuhu. Over the next few years, several adjustments were made: in July 1950, July 1952, September 1952, and the summer of 1953, resulting in Anhui University specializing in agriculture, forestry, and teacher education.
By February 1954, the Agricultural College of Anhui University became an independent institution known as Anhui Agricultural College. It relocated to Hefei in April of the same year.
In December 1968, the college embraced a rural education model and expanded to three campuses: Suxian Zilu Lake Campus, Chuxian Campus, and Fengyang Campus. The college enrolled its first batch of worker-peasant-soldier students in 1970, admitting 2,731 students from 1970 to 1977.
In October 1978, Anhui Agricultural College returned to Hefei. By 1995, it was renamed Anhui Agricultural University.
