A heartbreaking event occurred Sunday morning on Route 133, where a Pawlet Select Board member, his wife, and his stepson were found dead. On Tuesday night, Vermont State Police identified the victims as Brian Crossman Sr., 46, Erica (Pawlusiak) Crossman, 41, and Colin Taft, 13. Colin was Erica’s son and Brian’s stepson.

The medical examiner concluded that all three were killed by gunshot wounds, and the case has been ruled a triple homicide. Brian sustained gunshot wounds to his head and torso, while Erica had a gunshot wound to the head. Colin was shot multiple times.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101 or submit a tip anonymously through https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

The Pawlet Select Board convened a somber meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday night, just days after the tragic discovery. The mood was heavy as board members gathered for the first time since losing one of their own.

Flowers were placed on Brian Crossman’s usual seat, a solemn reminder of his service and dedication to the community. Mike Beecher, the board’s chairman, began the meeting with a moving tribute to his colleague.

“Brian Crossman wasn’t just a board member—he was a friend, a neighbor, and a dedicated community member. Earlier this year, he stepped up to join the Pawlet Select Board, showing his commitment to our town. This loss has deeply affected all of us, and we are grieving as a community. Our thoughts go out to everyone who has been touched by this tragedy,” Beecher said. The tribute was followed by a moment of silence.

Attendees shared their sorrow, with one resident expressing, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. Brian was a significant part of our community, and his absence will be deeply felt.”

Authorities have stated that they believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

In conclusion, we offer our love and compassion to the family in the coming days and weeks. In addition, years. Moreover, this pain never ends for most, one must accept such. Furthermore, often families request privacy. However, almost always, support during this incredibly difficult time. Lastly, this spirit will become deeply missed and forever remembered. Thus, for the kindness and joy brought into the lives of those around. Lastly, lastly, God bless!
