A 16-year-old has been taken into custody following the fatal shooting of another 16-year-old in a Wilton Manors residence, authorities reported. The Broward Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the suspect faces a charge of manslaughter involving a firearm.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at an apartment located at 403 Northwest 25th Street. Responding to the scene were Wilton Manors Police, Fort Lauderdale Police, and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, where they discovered the victim, identified as 16-year-old Christopher Granados.

Granados was immediately transported to a local hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, teens who were present at the time of the shooting informed authorities that Granados and the suspect had been handling firearms when one of the guns accidentally discharged, hitting Granados.

The arrest report reveals that both Granados and the suspect were in possession of handguns and had been “playing around pointing the guns at each other” before the tragedy unfolded.
