Carson Boneck Named 2025 U.S. Data Mind of the Year

Rebellion Research has announced Carson Boneck, CFA, as the 2025 U.S. Data Mind of the Year, honoring his leadership and innovation in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and quantitative research on Wall Street. The award will be presented at the London Stock Exchange’s U.S. headquarters in New York City on the afternoon of December 3rd.
Carson Boneck serves as Chief Data Officer at Balyasny Asset Management (BAM), where he leads the firm’s global data organization, known as the Data Intelligence Group. This division brings together data scientists, applied AI specialists, engineers, and sourcing experts to provide BAM’s portfolio managers with advanced data-driven insights. Under Boneck’s direction, the team has built a world-class data infrastructure that helps translate complex datasets into actionable investment strategies.

Boneck joined BAM in 2016 as Managing Director of Quantitative Research within the long-short equity division. By 2018, he was appointed Chief Data Officer and became a member of the firm’s Management Committee, guiding strategic initiatives in technology, innovation, and organizational excellence. His management style emphasizes collaboration, trust, and curiosity. Boneck often says that the key to success in data and AI lies in building cohesive teams that challenge assumptions and align their work directly with investor needs.
Before joining BAM, Boneck served as Global Head of Investment Management at S&P Global Market Intelligence, where he oversaw Capital IQ, data science operations, and the company’s data feed and collection businesses. Earlier in his career, he worked in quantitative research roles at Quantitative Services Group and Schwab Soundview Capital Markets, where he developed alpha models, equity research tools, and factor-based trading systems for hedge funds and institutional investors.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Boneck has been active in professional organizations that advance quantitative finance. He previously served as secretary and board member of the Society of Quantitative Analysts in New York and as a board member of the CFA Society of Chicago. His influence in the data science community has been recognized repeatedly: he has twice been named among the Top 100 Data Professionals by Data IQ and earlier this year recognized by Rebellion Research as one of Wall Street’s Top Data Scientists. Boneck holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and International Business from Indiana University Bloomington and has been a CFA charterholder since 2001. Over his career, he has managed teams ranging from small research groups to global organizations of more than 3,000 people, consistently focusing on innovation, organizational health, and measurable impact.
In accepting the honor of U.S. Data Mind of the Year, Boneck continues to inspire the new generation of financial data leaders who bridge the gap between technology and investment strategy. His leadership at BAM demonstrates how artificial intelligence, data science, and disciplined research can drive performance in modern asset management. The December 3rd ceremony at the London Stock Exchange’s U.S. headquarters will recognize his achievements as part of Rebellion Research’s annual celebration of excellence in AI and quantitative finance.
