Lauren Simmons Makes History on the NYSE
Lauren Simmons is the youngest female trader on the New York Stock Exchange at the age of 23. She is also the only current full-time woman on the floor. Simmons attended Kennesaw State University with a degree in genetics and a minor in statistics. Simmons grew up in Marietta, Georgia and was taken by math and statistics from her earliest years in school. Simmons' mother was a single working mother of 3 whose hard-working spirit was an inspiration to Simmons. One of her brothers suffers from cerebral palsy.
After graduating Kennesaw State, Simmons moved to New York City. Her credentials caught the attention of Gordon Charlop, who is a NYSE floor governor, and works as a partner at Rosenblatt Securities. He hired her to Rosenblatt last year. Rosenblatt is a specialist boutique brokerage firm that manages around $20 million in assets, mostly trades exchange-traded funds, or ETFs. Simmons is also only the second ever African American woman to work at the NYSE in over 226 years.
