AI Makes Missile Technology Perform Better
The growing demand of accurate strike missile systems has raised the military’s awareness towards its strike operations. In addition, in the future, accurate strike missiles are predicted to account for an even bigger share of the operations’ military strikes (Nizamani, 2015). Considering AI, there are several areas that should be focused to increase missile varieties.
One area artificial intelligence is being used is within radar sites. Radar sites can be enhanced and improved with the use of AI technology . For example, artificial intelligence can redesign or update radar sites, thus establishing an anti-radiation homing (ARH) seeker in order to decrease the radar shutdowns threats before the influences of missile technologies. The AI technology should be instilled into the current missile technology such as ALARM, AS-12 Kegler, AS-12 Kh-27, AGM-88 HARM, ARMAT, AS-11 Kilter, and AS-11 Kh-58 (Pan and Yang, 2010).
The second example of how artificial intelligence is useful is through ship targets. The reasons why ship targets require the assistance of AI is mainly because these targets need to increase in accuracy. The ships, to some degree, are relatively difficult to be targeted and generally demand AI to develop a penetrating warhead that uses kinetic energy. Additionally, supported by AI technology, the ships can fire anti-ship missiles which are extremely big and would require technology of this sort.
`The third example comes with armored targets. AI is needed for these armored targets because they are almost all small in size, mobile, flexible and very hard to control (such as tanks, carriers of armored personnel, and other vehicles of armored combat) (von et al., 2004).
A fourth example where AI is improving missiles is with buried targets. The reasons why buried targets demand the assistance of AI is due to the fact that buried targets normally need a penetrative warhead and intense fragmentation.
Combining the technological advantages that come along with artificial intelligence and missiles can result in a much more efficient use of these missiles, decreasing costs of productionm and increasing effectiveness. In addition, it can save raw materials, decreasing the size of the nose and the overall weight of the missile.
