Are Google’s search results biased?
Technology
Google search engine bias is certainly there and will push relevant content according to the customer’s needs. However, in the era of big data, this situation is very common.
The benefit becomes:
Push more personalized information, products; when customers want to search for a thing, the search engine can provide out the things that meet the requirements, no doubt to meet the needs of customers. This is a very intelligent technology.
The disadvantage is:
Constantly pushing the same, some kind of fixed information, will cause “information prison”, so that users receive the same information repeatedly “survivor bias” will lead to their perception of solidification. This leads to a false perception that the world is full of people who think like them, building a false identity. And there is a risk of pushing false, misinformation, which I think is horrible.
In addition, I believe that this search engine bias, in today’s age, increasingly betrays the original design intent. It is based on the user’s interest preference, but greatly violates the customer’s privacy. And personalized pushing, however, turns the algorithm that originally connects people around the world on the Internet into a closed cage.
In conclusion, I think algorithms, no matter how smart they are, need to become regulated within a range. Where it goes beyond our understanding and control and steals our privacy, we need to come and change that. Otherwise, by the time the problem becomes exposed, it will be too late.
