Andrea, originally from Maryland, was a bright and promising student who touched the lives of everyone around her with her intellect, kindness, and vibrant spirit. Her sudden loss has left the Rice University community, her family, and friends in deep mourning.

On Monday afternoon, Andrea became found in her dorm room at Jones College after family members became concerned when they couldn’t reach her. Rice University Police Chief Clemente Rodriguez confirmed that Andrea had been fatally shot by a man she had been in a dating relationship with, who was also found deceased in the room. The police continue to investigate the incident.
As Andrea’s family and friends grapple with this unimaginable loss, they ask for privacy and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Rice University President Reginald DesRoches has expressed the university’s deep grief and has pledged support for Andrea’s family, including flying her parents to Houston.
